The Center serves children from infancy through age 10, the latter in the after-school and summer programs. The Center was a response to research indicating that Lynchburg would require 500 new spaces for quality childcare by the late 1990s. When it was opened in 1997, enrollment grew to over 100 children within the first few weeks. By 2000, approximately 140 children were being served at the Center, which is the only nationally accredited preschool in the City.
