There are three classrooms for preschool aged children. Two of the classrooms, the Purple and Yellow Houses, enroll a mix of three- and four-year-old children. They transition to our third preschool classroom, the Pink House, the year before they go off to kindergarten, typically.

The Purple and Yellow Houses are licensed for 20 children in each. There are three teachers assigned to a classroom when the classroom is full. The State ratio is 1:10 but the Center tries to maintain a ratio of 1:7. The High Scope Curriculum is an essential part of the program in these classrooms. Instruction is developmentally appropriate and child-centered. Activities are developed, typically by the children in collaboration with the teachers. Such collaboration leads to creativity, independence, higher-level thinking, and the development of many essential pre-academic skills.

The Pink House is licensed for 24 children. The State ratio is 1:12 but the Center tries to maintain a ratio of 1:8. Instructional activities, daily routines, and classroom management procedures gradually become similar to those found in kindergarten classrooms. This change helps children to experience a smoother transition when they go off to kindergarten.
