EELC strives to provide a unique program for young children. Special features worth noting include:

Full accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. EELC guidelines require strict adherence to curriculum, staff ratios, and training standards, which extend beyond state regulations.

Referrals to local child assessment clinics for children at risk for learning difficulties.

Health Education room with a variety of programs designed for children and parents.

Collaboration with Miriam's House program for women and their children.

Affiliation with the Lynchburg College School of Education and Human Development, through support from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund and by the establishment of the Forsyth Professorship in Education and Human Development. College and EELC staff collaborate on curriculum development, parent training, and program design.

Assistance of adult and youth volunteers who help in classrooms, food preparation, environmental support, and clerical work. EELC is a program whose doors are open to active participation of community members.
